2009 - Texas Driver of the Year

Mr. William Ash, CFL Houston P&D driver, was selected as the 2009 Texas Driver of the Year by the Texas Motor Transportation Association.

2009 - Select Motor Carrier in FMCSA and DOL Training Process

Central was invited to assist the US DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in its efforts to educate members of the US Department of Labor in Level-One Inspection Procedures for motor carrier vehicles. 2009 Select Carrier in DOT- FMCSA National Safety Awareness Program Central was selected as the Texas Motor Carrier participant in “TACT” (Ticketing Aggressive Cars & Trucks), a National Public Awareness Program involving the US DOT-FMCSA, the Texas Motor Transportation Association and the Austin Police Department. Graphic artwork and pictorial safe driving messages to the public are displayed on CFL trailers in the Central Texas area.

2006-2009 - National “Poster” Carrier

Central was selected as the “Poster” Motor Carrier by the Director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Safety Institute due to Central’s exemplary record in safety and compliance and also due to the continuing education provided its drivers and management through the DOT-TSI Advance-Online training programs.

2009 - Compliance Review Audit

A U.S. DOT-Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Compliance Review Audit Completed in December of 2009 yielded the highest rating available (Satisfactory) with no noted violations.

2008 - President’s Trophy

Central was awarded its fifth ATA President’s Trophy in 2008 for having been judged to have the most outstanding fleet safety program in America.

2008 - National Fleet Safety Awards

First Place National Safety Award (TL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations. Third Place National Safety Award (LTL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations.

2008 - Select Motor Carrier in DOT- FMCSA Training Efforts

Central was invited to assist the US DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in its efforts to train new FMCSA Inspectors in regard to Hazardous Materials Transportation by motor carriers.

2008 - Select Member of DOT – FMCSA Working Committee

A member of the CFL Safety Department was appointed to a select ATA nine-member committee assigned to revise and update the US Dot Federal Highway Administration’s Commercial Vehicle Preventable Accident Manual - A Guide to Countermeasure, for use during FMCSA’s new 2010 Compliance Reviews.

2007 - National Fleet Safety Awards

First Place National Safety Award (LTL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations. First Place National Safety Award TL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations.

2007 - Grand Trophy Award

Central was judged to have the most complete, most effective safety program among all Texas carriers. Presented by the Texas Motor Transportation Association.

2007 - Texas Fleet Safety Award

First Place State Safety Award (LTL – Line Haul) presented by the Texas Motor Transportation Association.

2007-2008 - National Radio Broadcasts of Central’s Safety Messages

Safe driving messages, prepared by Central’s Safety Department for use among Central drivers, were selected by long-time radio and television personality Alex Burton for presentation during his regular broadcasts on ABC Radio Public Service Announcements.

2006 - Texas Driver of the Year

Donald Hyatt, San Antonio Line Driver, was selected as 2006 Texas Driver of the Year by the Texas Motor Transportation Association.

2006 - National Fleet Safety Award

Second Place National Safety Award (TL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations.

2005 - National Driver of the Year

Larry Springer, Austin Line Driver, was selected as the 2005 National Driver of the Year by the American Trucking Associations.

2005 - Texas Driver of the Year

Gary Thomas, Central’s VP of Safety, served as National Chairman of the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI), the organization that provides opportunities for Professional Certifications for members of the Motor Carrier Industry.

Gary Thomas, Central’s VP of Safety served as National Chairman of the Safety Management Council of the American Trucking Associations.

Central was awarded its third ATA President’s Trophy in 2000 for having been judged to have the most outstanding fleet safety program in America.

First Place National Safety Award (LTL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations.

1998 - Texas Driver of the Year

Mr. Pete Peden was selected by the Texas Motor Transportation Association as the Texas Professional Driver of the Year for 1998.

1997 - National Fleet Safety Award

First Place National Safety Award presented by the American Trucking Associations.

1996 - National Safety Director Award

Gary Thomas, CFL VP-Safety, was selected as the nation’s most outstanding safety director by the American Trucking Associations.

1996 - U.S. DOT Certificate of Appreciation

Central received recognition and certificate of appreciation from the Federal Highway Administration Office of Motor Carriers for cooperative assistance provided the compliance agency in its motor carrier programs.

1996 - National Fleet Safety Award

Third Place National Safety Award (LTL – Line Haul) presented by the American Trucking Associations.

1995 - President’s Trophy

Central was awarded its second ATA President’s Trophy in 1995 for having been judged to have the most complete and most effective Fleet Safety Program in America.

1995 - Texas Driver of the Year

Mr. Pete Peden, Lufkin, Texas Line Driver, was selected as Texas Driver of the Year by the Texas Safety Association.

State and National Fleet Safety Awards

In fifteen of the past twenty-five years Central has received First Place Award recognition in the Texas Motor Transportation Association’s Annual Texas Truck Safety Contests. During the past 15 years Central has received twelve First Place Awards, five Second Place Awards and five Third Place Awards in various categories of competition within the Annual National Truck Safety Contests of the American Trucking Associations.

Compliance Ratings

Every Compliance Review audit conducted by state and national regulatory agencies has resulted in the highest rating possible. A recent compliance audit by the U.S. Department of Defense concluded that Central maintained “the most complete and well documented safety program seen to date.” In addition, Central has also received a Congressional Citation for safety, a DOT Citation of Appreciation and both National and State safety award recognition.

President’s Trophy

Five times in a period of only twenty-four years (1984, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2008), Central has been presented the highest safety performance recognition award within the Motor Carrier Industry, the ATA President’s Trophy, which is awarded in recognition of the motor carrier judged to have the most complete and most effective fleet safety program in the nation. To be eligible for consideration for the President’s Trophy, a motor carrier must have placed either first, second or third in the National Fleet Safety competition for the preceding year. Carriers that win this award cannot again be considered for the award for a period of four years. Only one other motor carrier in America has received five ATA President’s Trophies.

Grand Trophy

Four times within the current decade (2002, 2003, 2007, 2010) Central has earned the Top Fleet Safety Award in Texas as presented annually by the Texas Motor Transportation Association in recognition of the motor carrier judged to have the most complete and most effective Safety Program among all carriers in the state.

National and State Drivers of the Year

During the past four decades, twelve Central drivers have been selected as Texas Professional Drivers of the Year by the Texas Motor Transportation Association. During the past 10 years, five Central drivers have been selected as Texas Drivers of the Year. Two Central drivers have been selected as National Drivers of the Year by the American Trucking Associations.

America’s Road Team

Two Central drivers (Larry Springer – Austin Line Haul & Tony Jones – Houston Line Haul) have served as Captains of the 12-member ATA America’s Road Team. This group is the “Best of the Best” in the trucking profession.

National Safety Director Award

Two Central Safety Directors have been recognized as the top Safety Directors in America in 1976 (Henry Lewis) and 1996 (Gary Thomas). Central is the only motor carrier to have had two of its Safety Directors receive this prestigious recognition.
